Daybreakers

Welcome back from the week of Turkey binging. Hope all is well. Tonight I wanna talk about Daybreakers. I know most of you are probably thinking I have an unhealthy obsession with Vampires, considering they are the subject of more posts, than any other specific type of film. It's untrue. I do like them, but the one's I dwell on are usually a little different than most. This film surprised the hell out of me with it's originality and smooth transition through the plot. I also love what they do with the Vampire community. What I enjoy are story lines that essentially turn the way we have been taught about certain things on it's ear. That's what this movie does. In this movie Vampires are not only socially accepted, but they actually have taken over, and it's the humans that are cast out. Not only cast out, but they are captured and harvested as food for the Vampers. Bad turns to worse when the lead Hemotologist Edward (Ethan Hawke), is having trouble manufacturing a sustainable food source for the dying Vamp population, since the human population is quickly depleting. The one thing that sets him apart from the rest is his desire to not only find a new source, but also to find a cure for them. This latter fact upsets the leaders as they have no want to go back to being human. Hawke does such a good job with his character, and he is constantly trying to reason with the higher ups. To no avail, he ends up helping some humans escape the Vamp patrol. This is where he learns very interesting things that changes everything. Great story. New Vamp "rules", and a brilliant twist of fate. I thoroughly enjoyed Daybreakers and would definitely watch it again.
