Soul Men

It had to be funny, right? I mean, Bernie Mac and Sam Jackson playing bitter old soul singers who haven't spoke in 30 years, only to get together for one last hoo-rah. So, originally a trifecta group known as The Real Deal, the lead singer left the band left the band to do his solo thing. He proved very successful through the decades, always adapting to whatever was hip and new. The Other two never went anywhere. Floyd Henderson (Mac) is actually  successful in business. He opened a car wash focused on cleaning the shiny wheels to which he named his business "Rim Jobs." Hilarious! The other guy, Louis Hinds (Jackson), really just became a loser. He does serious jail time, only to get out and be a car mechanic. He also lost his music royalties in a poker game. When the lead singer of The Real Deal dies, the two remaining members are asked to perform at the Apollo theater for his funeral. Considering these guys don't like each other, it's a bit of a task to get them to agree. Before their Apollo date, they book some small venues to tighten up their act. I must tell you, half way through this film I heard more F bombs and "Mother Effer's" than any other film, ever. That doesn't offend me, and was quite funny to listen to. The plot thickens when we find out Henderson stole Hinds' wife and married her, only to lose her a short while later. I really enjoyed this comedy, and would watch it again. They run into several road bumps along the way, as to all road trip movies, and they don't always get through them gracefully, but through them, they do get.
