Reign if Fire is the best portrayal of dragons ever on screen. Dragons, in my opinion, are not cute and cuddly lizards that happen to be able to fly and blow fire. They are in fact instinctual dinasaurs on a seek and destroy for food mission. This is their entire life. When no food is available, it quickly turns into "Only the strong survive" mentality, and that's when they begin eating their own. Quinn (Bale) is the boy who saw the very first dragon when it killed his mother in front of him as a young boy. It made him a bit of a celebrity. He has established a mobile town of sorts to keep the race alive. Constantly figuring out new ways to thrive and survive with the dragons stalking their movements, he has a pretty good chain of command, until Denton (McConaughey) shows up and begins to challenge his reign. Get it? Denton is a self proclaimed dragon slayer, and with his balls to the wall attitude, Quinn is not a happy camper. With food sources depleting for the humans, they know they must take the fight to the Dragon's and not sit back and wait to get burned up. I must admit I did not see this film until about 2006 when my brother ridiculed me relentlessly for not seeing it. I'm glad he was on my case, because I do love Dragons. Back in 2002, before Bale was a superstar, he played second billing to Matthew, which did play one of the baddest asses ever. The tats, and the cigar, along with a leather jacket that has a furry collar and no sleeves. Anyone who can pull that look off is awesome, not to mention his total disregard for his own life in the heat of battle. PFFFT. Sweetness. The roles of these two actors has flipped in the last few years. Matthew is now the Rom-Com king of the world, while Bale is John Connor, Batman, and one of the most sought after guys on the acting market. Plus Gerard Butler makes an appearance early on in his career. Well acted with great action. I dig it.
