The Expendables: Day 4
Today we speak of Jason Statham and probably the best movie he has done. The Bank Job was really good, as was Lock, Stock, but Snatch had everything that makes a movie great. Speaking of Statham, he is quickly turning into the sequel king as I mentioned yesterday. 3 Transporters, 2 Cranks, and next summer he will reprise the role of "Handsome Rob" in the heist series now called "The Brazilian Job" If the Crank 3 rumors turn true then that puts his sequel count up to 5. Let's face it, whether he's doing a Guy Richie film or any other film, whether it is a sequel or not, he seems to be typecast as the same person. I'm not saying I don't like what he does, it's all very entertaining. I would like to see him get a chance at a role where he doesn't have to play the tough guy. Maybe he should show off his soft side and play the "female" in a male/male relationship. Just a thought. That would be real acting. Back to Snatch, what a phenomenal caper movie. It involves multiple parties with nothing in common until Frankie Four Fingers (Great Name) loses a diamond he stole in London. These other parties become very interested in the diamond and British hilarity ensues. Boris the Blade aka. Boris the Bullet Dodger is a sneaky Russian gunrunner who is very interested in any big score. Then we've got Bricktop. He is one creepy old dude. He feeds people to his pigs because as he says "they can go through bone like butter". I've never seen Bricktop show up on any of those "Worst Villains" list, but anyone who feeds people to pigs is screwed in the head. He owns the local bookie agency, and he makes a good living being both scary, and crooked. When Turkish (Statham) screws him, he wants payback, so at this point he basically owns Turkish. Turkish tries to find a way out of Bricktop's pocket, enter the Pikey (Pitt's greatest role), which is ironic since the Pikey is the reason Turkish gets screwed to begin with. Needless to say the Pikey F's everything up, all parties come into the diamond picture like a wild orgy of theft and murder, and for once, the good guys win. I also really enjoy how Guy Richie directs. The way in which he shoots his films, you really have to pay attention, which makes it much more intense, even if the movie is not considered intense. The characters never grow old to me and I seem to find a new favorite every time I watch. Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones) is very enjoyable, and Dennis Farina is awesome as the only American involved. "Do I have anything to declare?" Yeah, don't miss out on Snatch!!
BTW: Don't ever type the word Snatch into Google Images. I'M JUST SAYING!
