Due Date

I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this film. It was Todd Phillips follow up to his smash hit The Hangover. Viewers expectations were high to say the least. And everything I read was nothing but negative words about this film. I don't understand the ignorance of people. The Hangover was what it was. Due Date was not trying to be anything other than Due Date. A good script very reminiscent of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles at times. It starts off with a bang showing Peter (Downey) getting to the airport to get on a plane, head across the country to be there for the birth of his and his wife's first baby. This is where he meets Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis). Some very uncomfortable airplane banter between the two gets them both expelled from the flight. Peter pleads his case in order to get on the next flight, but he has been placed on the National No Fly list. The bad news is he was kicked off the plane with none of his possessions. Clothes, wallet, id, money. He has none, but Ethan has enough to rent a car and start his journey via the US Hwy system. He is kind enough and dumb enough to offer to take the man he successfully got booted from the flight to get in his car for a 3000 mile road trip. Peter is calm and collected, but Ethan is an ignorant dimwit who wants to be an actor. They have nothing in common, and even as a viewer, we would like to kill Ethan most of the time. He is kind of a jerk, but doesn't realize it. He is a pothead which leads to one of the most uncomfortably funny scenes I have ever witnessed. Peter gets his buttons pushed by an 8 year old and does what any adult would want to, but never would. I absolutely LMAO for 5 minutes. So we really begin to wonder if Ethan is all he says. I mean, can anyone really be this stupid? It would be impossible to have this much bad luck on one road trip, but for our viewing pleasure I am glad they did. The crashes, gun, Jaime Foxx, Michelle Monaghan, Ethan's dog, some ashes, and Mexico. This is more dark comedy than regular comedy, and it is way better than what you may have heard. I really enjoyed it, and I will watch it again. The jokes work 90% of the time, and all in all it is very solid through and through.
**Also the cameo by none other than Danny McBride (Kenny Powers or La Flama Blanca to the bigger fans), is so perfect. Enjoy.
