The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep

Centered around the legend of the Loch Ness monster, this film is so much fun to watch. It's a creation of the story told by the great Brian Cox. He tells of a young boy, Angus, who found the mysterious egg in 1942 Scotland. He was being raised by his mother who worked on the estate near the loch. Out one day collecting shells he comes upon the egg, takes it home, and eventually it hatches. It appears to be an animal unknown in the area. His adult friend explains to him that it looks like a water horse. A reptilian waterbound dinosaur of sorts. Crusoe is what Angus named his new and only friend. Crusoe grows so fast Angus can no longer keep him a secret. So logically they dump him in the loch. Angus thinks nothing of it, but when he visits Crusoe he is huge. He had the room to grow, so he did. He gets to ride this animal in and out of the loch and it's awesome. He is constantly visiting him and keeping the friendship alive. The island he resides is currently being maintained by the royal navy trying to monitor German U boats. This turns the area into a very uncomfortable. Once some of the drunken military patrol catch eyes on the monster, there number 1 priority is to kill the beast. They feel he is a threat to the island. This upsets Angus and all the others that know of Crusoe. He knows he must protect his friend, but at what cost. Crusoe's instincts kick in when he is in danger and some folks feel Angus may also be in danger. It really turns into a matter of trust between the boy
and the beast. I love how it ends. So dynamic, so Intense. It's so beautiful. I didn't realize how much I would enjoy this movie, but having seen it 3 times, I know it must be better than average. This may shock some of you, but.....
