The Twilight Saga : Eclipse

The third of four novels, but the third of 5 movies is Eclipse. Eclipse was promising to me because Eddie is back and Jake is still around, while Bella messes with both their minds. It's a classic love triangle. So with Edward back and possessive as ever, Bella's Father is the one having the most issues. He has more presence and more lines in this film than the previous two. He adds the "protective, concerned Father" to the dynamic. Bella wants to be turned, Edward wants to be married. Needless to say this is the ongoing argument throughout. There is a lot more lovey dovey stuff in this one than in New Moon. New Moon worked so well for me because of the wolves. The only complaint about that was they should've been on screen more. Eclipse delivers that notion perfectly. I really enjoyed the scene when Bella is leaning up against Jacob (in his wolf form). It shows the magnitude of the wolves stature. Imagine a wolf that's bigger than a bear. It was done well. Eclipse has so many different aspects of story telling, it really stands out as a different film than the first two. It really delves into the lives of other Cullen family members. The flashback stories of Jasper told by Jasper, and Rosalie told by Rosalie are some of the more interesting parts of the film. I also really liked the history of the wolf pack as told by the elders of the tribe. I also like the transfers of respect between the wolf pack and the Cullen clan. They must fight together to stop the army of newborns. Not babies, but new vamps. They are strongest inside their first 7 months and they are being constructed by Victoria. She is still yearning for revenge on Bella for causing the demise of her mate James in the first film. A battle is looming and the Cullen's want to be prepared. The battle royale that ensues is full of great action, and the CG wolves look pretty stinkin' real. Last night when I finished watching it, I was still liking New Moon the best of all three. Now after writing this and really thinking about all that I liked about it, I may have changed my own mind.

I rated Twilight as Great, but having watched it in bits and pieces with both A-Bomb and my Misses, I am bumping it up to Awesome. That's the same as I gave New Moon.
