A-Team

I'm gonna change gears a little bit. First I reviewed a 20 year old movie, then a 25 year old one. Now I'm going to something still in theaters. A movie by all counts is being ripped apart by so called "critics". What kills me is the fact that most critics probably watched the TV show as children or young teens and probably loved every second of it. What I don't get is how any person could turn their back on what, in my mind, was a really good flick. It was everything it was suppose to be. Action packed (sometimes ridiculous), sexy, funny, campy, and patriotic. I must admit, before the opening credits were done rolling, I had a smile from ear to ear. 8 minutes in, and I was an 8 year old again, rolling my black toy van through the living room, letting my imagination do the writing. Sure, the action scenes were ridiculous, but isn't that what we Americans thirst for? (Retorical question) Of course it is, Why do you think all the summer blockbusters are action movies, or superhero movies? Whether they are shit or not, It's what I want, and I'm pretty sure it's what you all want as well.  I say BRAVO to the A-Team for putting it all out there, saying screw it, Lets blow up a plane, and start free falling in a tank. To that, I say, Hell Yeah!! Biggest surprise of the movie for me was the quite good acting job by Quentin "Rampage" Jackson. I feel the relationship between B.A. and Murdoch was the most entertaining dialogue of the entire film. Not to mention, the film long gag of B.A.'s  fear of flying with Murdoch. That shit was classic. Some jokes can get old. That one did not. It was an outstanding movie that did everything right. It was a good screen adaption of a TV show, which doesn't happen very often. I'm already waiting on a sequel. Are you?

A-Team gets a no brainer rating of Awesome...... It does have a good chance of promotion after I watch it a few more times

Back to the Future

A quarter century ago before Flux capacitors, Doc Brown, and Deloreans were well known Eric Stoltz was being a dick. It is not well known that he was the original Marty McFly, but it didn't take long for Robert Zemeckis to realize the part should be played by Alex P. Keaton. With Michael J. Fox on board the greatest time travel movie is about to happen. I knew it was going to get great after the opening 8 foot woofer explosive music scene, and then Marty had to go and ride his skateboard while holding on to a Jeep. Awesome. "And that's the power of love". This movie has a wonderful attention to detail. From 1985 to 1955 the changes are classic and genius.
From classic lines that don't relate 30 years earlier like, "Hey kid, you jump ship?" "I can't give you a Tab unless you order something" , and of course, "If you want a pepsi pal you're gonna pay for it" . Then we meet one of the best bully performances ever. Biff Tannen. Marty has to deal with a lot of crap while in 1955. He sees his dad as a teen is a peeping tom, he gets hit by a car, his mom is a perverse, drinkin, smokin, rebellious teen, who want to have a little nibble of Calvin Klein, and there is absolutely no plutonium to get him back. And if you ever thought you wanted to meet your mom as a teenager ....YOU DON'T. Marty's primary concern was to get back to 1985, but quickly realized there may be nothing to get back to. A classic story of time travel and the consequences our actions may do to the harm or change the future. As if it's not bad enough, his mother has the hots for him instead of his father. This movie is so heavy in it's interpretations of the way life is, could be, and should be. At it's core this movie demonstrates that one simple action could alter reality infinitely, and that shit is scary. Watching this movie as a child, none of that crossed my mind. All I knew was, this is a great movie and I wanted to time travel at that point, or maybe just own a car that the doors raised up. What's really awesome about this film is how Marty was able to not only save his future, but enhance every aspect of his parents, once sad existence, into a happy life together. He returns to his hot girlfriend, Wealthy parents, Biff waxing the McFly's vehicle, and a brand new 4X4 in his garage. What a great way to end a phenomenal film. In closing, the cameo by Flea was unsuspected, but brilliant. No one in the history of the world has ever been so happy to be struck by lightning as Marty was that night that gave him back his life. We love this movie because it never gets old. From the one liners to the 30 year gap in the timeline. If its on I cannot change the channel without watching the rest of it.

Tremors

Valentine and Earl Bassett
When trying to figure out what movie I wanted to review first, I tried to think of a movie I have literally seen hundreds of times, both edited and non. I first watched Tremors as a television edited Saturday night feature on USA network, I think. We taped it that night and my brother and I wore that VHS completely out and we watched it so many times, to this day I can still substitute all the cursing with the TV edited version of slang that really didn't make any sense. This movie is so quotable, yet, I don't think it ever reached "Cult" status like I feel it should've. What a great cast of characters. Val and Earl may be the greatest duo in a perilous situation ever. It was Reba's big breakthrough in the entertainment industry. Lets be honest, If she had never fought graboids, I feel her music would have gone unnoticed. And then there's Burt (Michael Gross) who actually says "Mother Humper" , which leads to Val saying it 2 more times, in a row. Any movie that says Mother Humper 3 times is a big winner in my book. All in all, most of the patrons of Perfection, population 14, don't make it to the end of the film, but the one shining note is that at least 50% of the minority characters in the film survive. Walter Chang was not as lucky as Miguel. Miguel , I feel, got to live because he contributed at least one good idea to the survival of the group "Let them follow him around, if they like that noise". All Chang was concerned with was "the damn name!" Nester didn't get high enough and Fred's sheep just weren't filling enough to the graboids, Edgar only has one jacket and he was the first to realise, Graboids aren't afraid of Winchester rifles.
I give the movie Tremors a rating of: Phenomenal
